“Mamamayang Ayaw sa Anomalya, Mamamayang Ayaw sa Ilegal na Droga” or MASA MASID is a community-based initiative of the DILG that engages volunteers in the fight against criminality and illegal drugs. It encourages collaboration of different sector in the community which will be mobilized to complement the efforts of the National Government in its advocacy to eradicate illegal drugs and illegal activities.
As a strategy, the MASA MASID Program mobilizes and converges the Barangay Action Team (BATs) composed of CSOs, NGOs and Barangay-Based Institutions (BBIs) to advocate crime prevention, peace and order, security, and in enhancing transparency and accountability in the barangay. It also serves as an “umbrella organization” of all BBIs concerned in advocating peace and order and public safety in the locality.
On April 26, 2017, the DILG Baguio spearheaded the 2nd Phase MASA MASID Orientation attended by 230 participants from the civil society organizations to include faith-based organizations and interest groups recognized as members of the MASA MASID Teams of 56 Barangays of Baguio City.
Before the orientation proper, a ceremonial MOA Signing was done on the implementation of the program at the City level among members of the Expanded UBAS-TWG that includes the DILG Baguio, Liga ng mga Barangay-Baguio City Chapter, Baguio City Police Office, Office of City Councilor Robert Ortega, as the CADAC representative, and the Epicenter Church and Tribes and Outreach Nation Inc.
The topics discussed were legal framework, MASA MASID Program (Background, Structure, and Functions), implementing strategies, composition and responsibilities MASA MASID team, information gathering, reporting and monitoring, and commitment building.
