Gov. Bonifacio Lacwasan and DILG-Mountain Province PD Anthony Manolo I. Ballug handed Php 50,000 to each former rebel during the Awarding of Livelihood Financial Assistance program at the DILG-Provincial Office last May 31. The three former rebels have undergone profiling, socio economic interventions and capability building activities and livelihood trainings conducted by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
Gov. Lacwasan thanked the former rebels for availing of the program of DILG and their reintegration to mainstream society. He explained that there are many government programs for them to become more productive members of society. “Avail of these and help us establish a better Mountain Province,” he implored. PD Ballug on the other hand assured immediate assistance to active rebels who want to surrender. “The CLIP so far is the best reintegration program we have at present,” he said. Being implemented at the local level, local governments are better equipped to assist former rebels in their localities.
Constant life on the run, dissatisfaction with the revolutionary movement leadership, hardship of life and the ever present possibility of being arrested and charged are the primary reasons the former rebels decided to return to the folds of the law. The activity was participated by the members of the Philippines Army, PSWDO, the Philippine National Police, Governor’s Office and DILG.# Raymundo Basco, DILG MP
